This is an alphabetical list of sovereign states and their dependencies. This list includes, in addition to universally recognised independent sovereign states, several countries with limited recognition, and dependent territories, such as overseas territories, protectorates, and colonies. These dependencies are grouped with the sovereign states of which they are a part.
